The Super Eagles of Nigeria on Wednesday night defeated Guinea-Bissau 2-0 to cement their place as top of Group D of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations with nine points.

Goals from Umar Sadiq and William Troost-Ekong gave Nigeria victory on the night and maintained the team's perfect record in the tournament this year.

Coach Augustine Eguavoen used the occasion to give many of the players in the team, who had not featured much in the competition, a chance to display their talents.

Key players like Taiwo Awoniyi, Ola Aina and goalkeeper Maduka Okoye were all rested for the game by the coach.

As a result of the victory, the Super Eagles will remain in the city of Garou where they will welcome their next opponent in the first knock-out round.

Egypt also qualified for the next round from Group D despite losing their first match to Nigeria.

They defeated Sudan on Wednesday night after a previous victory against Guinea-Bissau in their second group game.

Nigeria is gunning for a fourth AFCON trophy in Cameroon this year and there is a growing feeling that the Super Eagles can go all the way in the tournament this time.

The All Progressives Congress Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee has adopted the timetable of activities of its national convention slated for February 26, 2022. 

The ruling party disclosed this during a meeting on Wednesday in Abuja. 

A statement by the APC reads, "There will be receiving of the interim report of the National Reconciliation Committee on 31st January, 2022, while consideration and adoption of reports of state congresses is scheduled for 2nd February 2022.

"On 3rd February, 2022, there will be inauguration of the state executives and sale of forms to all aspirants vying for national offices (APC National Secretariat) will take place on 14th February, 2022. 

"Also, submission of completed forms and accompanying documents (APC National Secretariat) on or before 19th February, 2022, the publication of sub-committees is also slated for the same day, 19th February, 2022. 

"There will be screening of all aspirants vying for national offices between  20th and 22nd of February, 2022. 

"The screening appeals to hear and resolve complaints arising from the screening exercise on 23rd February, 2022. 

"Between 24th and 25th of February 2022, there will be accreditation of all statutory and elected delegates to the national convention. 

"The national convention to elect national officers to the National Executive Committee will hold on 26th February, 2022. 

"It will be concluded with the national convention appeal to hear and resolve complaints arising from the national convention on 28th February, 2022."

A resident of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, Akintade Samuel, has lamented that the National Identification Management Commission made a mistake on his date of birth by inputting 1971 instead of 1981 when processing his national identity card. 

Samuel, who spoke with SaharaReporters on Wednesday, said an NIMC official after acknowledging that it was the agency’s error, went ahead to demand N100,000 from him to correct the mistake. 

Samuel added that he asked the NIMC to correct his date of birth to 1981, which was what was on his Bank Verification Number done in Abuja but the NIMC official insisted on collecting N100,000 before making any correction.

The Abuja resident told SaharaReporters that he had vowed not pay a dime since the blunder was from the NIMC.

He called on Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, to wade in the matter.

He said, "I never did the mistake. I told the female staff last year when it occurred that it was not my date of birth.

"She told me that she can't change it, that l will have to prove to them that it was my date of birth and I have to pay N100,000 to UBA Bank. 

"I told her I won't and she told me I should carry my cross and I left with the temporary slip given to me. This is extortion. 

"Technology is meant to make work easier and faster; not to make you pass through the eye of a needle.

"The minister should kindly look into this matter."

Members of the Olubadan-in-Council have agreed to withdraw the legal suit, which has been cited as a hindrance to the enthronement of the new Olubadan of Ibadanland.

The decision was taken when the high chiefs convened at the Olubadan palace, Oja’ba on Tuesday, The Nation reports.

This will pave way for the formal announcement and enthronement of Otun Olubadan, Senator Lekan Balogun, as the next Olubadan of Ibadanland.

Recall that on Sunday, the Olubadan-in-Council had selected Senator Balogun as the next Olubadan.

The Otun-Balogun of Ibadanland, High Chief Tajudeen Ajibola, who briefly addressed reporters after the two-hour meeting, said the high chiefs had agreed with the governor to withdraw the suit in court.

He said the process of withdrawing the case had commenced, stressing that due process would be followed when asked about when the process would be concluded.

He said, “The case was adjourned to the 1st of February this year and whatever happens, we would have to get to the court before the withdrawal can take place.”

The meeting was informed by the agreement, which the high chiefs reached with Governor Seyi Makinde on Saturday that all parties would do whatever necessary to ensure the selection and enthronement of the next Olubadan was smooth.

The chiefs, who became Royal Majesties and Baales elevated to coronet-wearing Obas by the 2017 review of the Olubadan Chieftaincy Declaration, filed separate suits challenging a consent judgment obtained on the suit challenging their elevation.

They argued that the consent judgment was obtained without their participation, stressing that their fate could not have been decided behind them.

The elevated Baales have scheduled their meeting to Thursday during which they will also review the current situation of things on the succession process and take a position.

They have indicated that the high chiefs’ decision to withdraw their own case did not affect their own suit in any way since they are separate suits.

Barely 24 hours after the death of Oba Saliu Adetunji, a former Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Micheal Lana, had written to Governor Makinde, warning him against approving the expected nomination of Balogun as the next Olubadan given the suit filed by the chiefs.

He highlighted that the suit constituted an encumbrance on the selection and enthroning process, stressing that only withdrawal of the suit can pave the way for a smooth succession process.

The Ondo State Government is doing everything possible to cover up details surrounding the death of Ojo Emmanuel Oluwafemi, a 16-year-old JSS 3 student of CAC Grammar School, Akure, who passed away on January 11, 2022. 

Parents of the student were called by a teacher in the school on the afternoon of that day that Oluwafemi was ill and had been rushed to a hospital for treatment. 

But when the boy's father got to the hospital he didn't meet his son at the emergency room of the hospital. 

He was later directed to meet the teacher at the hospital gate where he saw Oluwafemi being brought in dead by a commercial taxi driver, who disappeared from the place immediately. 

Principal of the school, Mrs Oluwapelumi Adetimehin, stated that Oluwafemi looked healthy and bubbly when he got to school that fateful Tuesday.

However, another account of events leading to Oluwafemi's death claimed that he attempted to jump through a window but hit his head against the post and collapsed in the process.

He was said to have been given hydrocut injection by a nurse at the school's clinic at about 9:00am before being taken to hospital around 1:30pm.

Physician of the deceased's family, Dr Ilesanmi Micheal, in a recent interview insisted that it was only a qualified and certified medical doctor that was permitted to administer hydrocut injection on anyone.

Investigation has, however, revealed that the the Ondo State Government was doing everything to cover up circumstances surrounding the death of the boy because the school's principal was wife of Chairman of Ondo State All Progressives Congress, Engr Ade Adetimehin. 

According to a reliable source, the deceased's parents had no intention to speak to the press about the death of their son until they started hearing contradictory accounts of what must have happened to their son. 

They wondered why none of the school teachers volunteered to take the boy to the hospital in their cars and why the state government had to offer them money two days after the boy's death.

Mother of the deceased student, Prophetess Omolade Ojo, revealed that there were details about the death of her son that the school was hiding from the the public.
