Yoruba Nation agitators have disclosed their plan to conduct a mega rally in the United States on the 9th of June, 2022.
This was made known in a flyer released by All Yoruba Self Determination Groups and Media In Diaspora, a group agitating for the actualisation of the Yoruba Republic.

According to the group, the rally will be held at the US Department of State 2201 C St NW. Washington DC 20520.
The rally is to call for the actualisation of Yoruba sovereign state and the release of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) by the Nigerian Government.
Kanu, a British-Nigerian political activist who advocates for the secession and independence of Biafra from Nigeria, has been detained since June 2021 by Nigeria’s secret police, Department of State Services (DSS) following his rendition to Nigeria from Kenya.
SaharaReporters earlier reported that the trial of Kanu resumed on Wednesday at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
The court authorities dismissed some of the stringent conditions surrounding Kanu's trial and ordered that Kanu should be allowed to watch football matches.

[GIST] BREAKING: Tension As Protesters Block Office Of Nigerian Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Over Tenure Elongation For Council Chairmen

[GIST] BREAKING: Tension As Protesters Block Office Of Nigerian Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Over Tenure Elongation For Council Chairmen

All Content

Some residents of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja have trooped to the Minister's office located at Area 11 to protest against the judgement of a Federal High Court which granted a one-year tenure extension to the incumbent area council chairmen.
The protesters on Friday displayed placards and blocked the entrance of the building, causing tension in the area.

They also blocked Gwagwalada-Giri Expressway and set a bonfire on the road, making it impassable for motorists.
The protesters are calling for the swearing-in of the six elected chairmen, an event earlier scheduled for Friday, May 20 (today).

They also faulted the decision of the FCT minister, Bello Mohammed to suspend the inauguration and swearing-in ceremony of the elected chairmen.
According to the judgment, based on the recently signed Electoral Act 2022, which stipulates that the tenure of office of the chairmen of the Area Councils in FCT would now be four years, instead of three years, the existing chairmen, whose tenure was meant to expire on Thursday, have one more year to spend in office.

[GIST] Enugu PDP Chairman, Nnamani, Other Executives Face Likely Arrests Over Alleged Forgery Of Party Receipts, Delegates’ List

[GIST] Enugu PDP Chairman, Nnamani, Other Executives Face Likely Arrests Over Alleged Forgery Of Party Receipts, Delegates’ List

Some executives of the Enugu State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) may soon be charged for forgery of PDP receipts and three-man Ad-hoc delegates forms, SaharaReporters has learnt.
The affected executives include the Chairman of the Enugu State chapter of the PDP, Chief Augustine Nnamani; Secretary, Mr. Cletus Akalusi and Chief of Staff to Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Dr. Festus Uzoh.

The men ran into trouble following an alleged attempt to mislead the court in their bid to prove that they followed the PDP Constitution and Guidelines for the Election of Three-Man Delegates and National Delegates in the election of 780 ad-hoc delegates on April 30, 2022, Ward Congress across the 260 wards of the state.
Controversy has trailed the April 30 exercise in Enugu following the allegation that while a section of Enugu PDP leaders followed the party’s guidelines, Governor Ugwuanyi and the leadership of the party in the state handed a list of ad-hoc delegates allegedly generated four days to the real exercise to the Prince Vincent Yandev Amaabai-led PDP national.

SaharaReporters’ investigation had earlier reported that the party did not make result sheets available in any of the 260 wards in the state.

The Enugu State PDP, coordinated by Chief Augustine Nnamani, Dr. Festus Uzoh, and others had quickly put together some members of the party loyal to the governor to institute a case in the Enugu State High Court, seeking to have their list upheld as the authentic ad-hoc delegates list.
Consequent upon the lawsuit marked E/379/2022, which has PDP; PDP National Chairman, Senator Iyorchia Ayu; PDP National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu; PDP National Organising Secretary, Hon. Bature Mohammed; Chairman, Enugu State Chapter of the PDP, Chief Augustine Nnmani; among others as Defendants, the Plaintiffs, namely Prince Paul Nnaji & Ors also got an ex-parte order from Justice Harold Eya’s court restraining the Defendants from recognising or giving effect to any other three-man ad-hoc delegates list other than the list that emerged from the congress held on April 30, 2022, pending the hearing of the Motion on Notice.
Meanwhile, the Plaintiffs, in the bid to prove that only those on the list in question purchased nomination forms and therefore validly stood for the three-man delegates’ election, showed receipts for the nomination forms to prove their case.
However, it was discovered that whereas the PDP Guidelines duly signed by the National Chairman and National Secretary pegged the cost ward ad-hoc delegates forms at N5,000, the purported official receipts exhibited as Exhibit “E” bearing Prince Paul Nnaji, Exhibit “F” bearing Onu Tobias Ogbonna, and Exhibit “H” bearing Agbo Kelvin Ikechukwu bears N50,000 each.
Ironically, contrary to the claim that Senator Ike Ekweremadu’s supporters who participated in the exercise and had also applied and were joined in the suit did not purchase nomination forms as stipulated by PDP Guidelines, their lawyers exhibited authentic receipt of payment of N5,000 for each form.
“This is a major setback for the governor’s camp because you cannot put something on nothing and expect it to stand. It means that the so-called three-man delegates list they have been parading is fake and fraudulent. So, SaharaReporters were impeccable in their previous investigative report on how Ugwuanyi compiled a fraudulent delegates list.
“Besides, all those involved in the clear forgery are in trouble because I can reliably inform you that they will be charged for forgery. In fact, there is palpable fear now as arrests may be made today (Friday),” an insider source revealed.

[GIST] Northern Elders Back Spokesman’s Call For Igbo To Secede, Slam Ohanaeze Over ‘Irresponsible’ Comments

[GIST] Northern Elders Back Spokesman’s Call For Igbo To Secede, Slam Ohanaeze Over ‘Irresponsible’ Comments

All Content

The Northern Elders Forum has backed a statement made by its spokesman, Dr Hakeem Baba-Ahmed circulating in a viral video that Igbo people should be allowed to secede from Nigeria.

The northern group, however, berated the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, for demanding the arrest Baba-Ahmed, for saying what they called the obvious truth.

It faulted Ohanaeze’s claims that Baba-Ahmed was making inciting statements.

Baba-Ahmed, who is the group’s Director of Publicity and Advocacy, had in the video, said: “We said if secession is what every Igbo wants, and this is what the Igbos want, the nation should not fight a war over it.”

He also asked the northerners residing in Southern Nigeria to start relocating back to the North.

Angered by the statement, Ohanaeze through its spokesman, Dr. Alex Ogbonnia, Wednesday, slammed Baba-Ahmed, describing his broadcast as extremely nauseating, uncouth, provocative, incendiary, inflammatory and above all very arrogant and licentious.

The convener of NEF, Prof. Ango Abdullahi, in a statement on Thursday, said Ogbonnia’s comments “are, to say the least, dangerous and irresponsible, designed to achieve only one goal: to put the life of Dr Baba-Ahmed in peril.

“The Northern Elders Forum states categorically that all comments and statements made by Dr Baba-Ahmed are authorised, and they represent its positions.

“The press statement which he read on the 8th of June, 2021 at the Forum’s headquarters in Abuja in presence of the full Forum was the statement of the Forum by which it still stands.

“We’re aware of attempts to create the impression that this statement is recent as well as other attempts to misrepresent its contents to create scapegoats for the failure to limit the damage of irredentism.

“In spite of many efforts to inform the public appropriately, it appears that Ohaneze Ndigbo has fallen prey to more mischief, or is itself actively involved in incitement against a citizen.

“The Forum stands by its Director of Publicity and Advocacy, a Nigerian whose pedigree and service to our nation have few parallels.

“It sees the claim that Dr Baba-Ahmed is a security risk and the demand that he should be arrested as pathetic and beneath even the ordinary standards of Ohaneze Ndigbo.

“We serve notice that we know who to hold responsible in the event of any harm to Dr Baba-Ahmed.

“The Forum advises Ohaneze Ndigbo to focus its attention on contributing to securing people of the South East from multiple threats, and ensuring that Ndigbo has a befitting relevance in Nigeria.

“The Forum affirms its full confidence in Dr Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, who will continue to serve the country and the North as we search for a future that accommodates all interests in Nigeria.
