Nigeria’s ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), has again reviewed its timetable for primary elections for various elective positions.

National Publicity Secretary of the party, Felix Morka, released the new timetable on Wednesday with a few adjustments to the former one.

He said the new dates were approved by the party’s National Working Committee at its meeting on Wednesday.

The statement read, “The National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress on Wednesday, 18th of May, 2022, approved an adjusted Timetable/Schedule of Activities for the Governorship, State House of Assembly, House of Representatives, Senate and Presidential primaries and appeals as follows:

“Governorship and House of Representatives – Thursday, 26th of May, 2022. Senate and House of Assembly – Friday, 27th of May, 2022.

“For election appeals: Governorship and House of Representatives – Friday, 27th of May, 2022.

“Senate and House of Assembly – Saturday, 28th of May, 2022. Special convention for presidential primaries holds Sunday 29th – Monday, 30th of May, 2022.”

These adjustments are coming amidst calls for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to extend the deadline for the conclusion of all primaries.

The country’s 18 registered political parties, through the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) had last Tuesday, asked the commission to review its timetable and schedule of activities to afford member parties enough time to put their houses in order.

The electoral body has insisted on June 3 as the deadline for party primaries.

[GIST] Nnamdi Kanu Trial: Ohanaeze Youths Accuse Security Agencies Of Stripping Igbo Women Naked, Demand Apology

[GIST] Nnamdi Kanu Trial: Ohanaeze Youths Accuse Security Agencies Of Stripping Igbo Women Naked, Demand Apology

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council (OYC) has accused Nigerian security agents of stripping naked and manhandling Igbo women who came to show their solidarity with Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), at the Federal High Court, Abuja on Wednesday.

The group demand an apology from security agencies for the alleged assault.
It described the actions of the security personnel as sacrilegious, noting that they smacked of hatred for the Igbo people. The youths also alleged that security agencies watch them and do nothing as Igbo people and their businesses are attacked across the country.
The group in a statement signed by its National President, Comrade Igboayaka O. Igboayaka, titled: "Nnamdi Kanu's Case: Security Agents Assaults Igbo Women, Hit Them With AK-47 Rifle Weapons- Ohanaeze Youth", accused the security agencies of being behind the crisis in South-East to destroy the region.
He regretted that the country is fast becoming a 'banana republic' where the dignity of human life is easily reduced to nothing while violation of human rights is the order of the day in the hands of security operatives.
He said, "The Igbo women and mothers who stood about one kilometre away from the Federal High Court, close to Blue Springs Hotel, Abuja became objects of security brutality when the troops of Nigerian security agents sprayed tear gas on the aged mothers, marched the women on the ground while hitting them with guns and left them with bruises because they were Igbo.
"In the process, some of the women were stripped naked by security men. This is completely unacceptable; a taboo to womanhood and a slap at the dignity of Nigerian women. This adds to the series of anti-social reasons why Nigeria is counted among the unsafe places to live in the world.
"The behaviour of security personnel on Igbo women today is a challenge to women groups, the National Assembly and the global community. People have a right to movement and association, but the case of Nigeria is fast becoming different.
"Nigeria is drifting into a state of lawlessness where fundamental human rights are serially abused, especially by security agents and this truism accounts for why Nigeria is leading in abuse of human rights violation globally."
The Youth group, however, called on the International Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International and all the global human rights community to beam their searchlights on the ugly events in Nigeria, especially the ongoing killings in the South-East.
The group lamented the intimidation, marginalisation, injustice, and human rights abuses against Ndigbo, identifying them as some of the issues that led to the quest for secession.
It said instead of improving the situation, the Nigerian government has worsened it and pushed the country to a state of near collapse.

[GIST] EXCLUSIVE: Ex-Governor Tinubu Plots To Secretly Obtain Ruling APC Senatorial Form For ‘Stooge’ In Lagos Despite Conclusion Of Screening

[GIST] EXCLUSIVE: Ex-Governor Tinubu Plots To Secretly Obtain Ruling APC Senatorial Form For ‘Stooge’ In Lagos Despite Conclusion Of Screening

Some members of the ruling All Progressives Congress party in Lagos State have exposed how national leader and former governor of the state, Bola Tinubu, and other stalwarts are planning to obtain the senatorial nomination forms for their stooge in the Lagos West Senatorial District.
This is despite the closure of sales and submission of forms as announced by the National Working Committee of APC.

The APC had closed the sale of expression of interest and nomination forms last Thursday, while the deadline for the submission of the forms was midnight on Friday.
The screening for all Senatorial and House of Representatives aspirants was also done on Saturday and Sunday in Abuja.
Speaking to SaharaReporters, a top member of the APC said Tinubu had, however, embarked on an illegal means of obtaining a new form for a new aspirant after his allegedly preferred candidate, Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, withdrew from the race.
Orelope-Adefulire had stepped down her senatorial ambition to retain her current appointment as the Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Sustainable Development Goals.
“Not pleased with the inability of their preferred candidate- Adejoke Orolope-Adefulire to contest the Lagos West Senatorial race, the Lagos APC Leader has embarked on illegal means of obtaining a new form for a new aspirant,” the source said.
“You know that the trio of Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire and Kayode Opeifa had obtained the forms to contest for the seat in the red chambers but only Obanikoro and Opeifa attended the screening exercise while Orelope stepped down her ambition to retain her current appointment.
“Meanwhile, not satisfied by the chances of the remaining aspirants at the primary, the National Leader in collusion with the National Chairman of the APC is on the verge of obtaining a form through the backdoor. However, how a man like Adamu Abdullahi with his pedigree will allow such illegality be perpetrated under his watch, is left to be seen,” another top APC member in Lagos noted.
“It is believed that the new form (if successfully obtained) will be for either of these 3 persons. Top on the list is his sister-in-law; Dr. (Mrs) Lola Akande, a  commissioner in the Cabinet of Governor Babajide Sanwoolu, his deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat or the former Deputy Governor, Mrs. Idiat Adebule.
“Tinubu is attempting to leverage on the perceived relationship formed between Idiat Adebule who was a member of the APC reconciliation committee headed by Adamu Abdullahi, to have his way.
“Interestingly, the APC Screening Committee headed by Alhaji Shinkafi, the former Governor of Zamfara State has since submitted its report. Therefore, it is left to be seen how an unscreened aspirant will pick the party's ticket in Lagos West,” another source explained.

[GIST] Ex-President, Jonathan To Attend PDP Convention Amid Controversy Of Picking Ruling APC’s Presidential Nomination Forms

Barring last-minute changes, Nigeria's former president, Goodluck Jonathan, has agreed to attend the National convention of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), slated for May 29, in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, SaharaReporters has learnt.
Top sources said this was one of the highlights after the Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, visited the former president at his Abuja residence in the Maitama district on Tuesday.

The fresh PDP’s parley with Jonathan is amid controversies that the former president would seek re-election on the platform of the ruling party, All Progressives Congress (APC).
In the last two weeks, SaharaReporters reported that the former president was being mobilised by northern forces to seek re-election in 2023 on the platform of the APC
Though Jonathan denied the media reports that he purchased the N100 million APC presidential expression of interest and nomination forms, his recent meeting with APC National Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, suggested otherwise.
“At the meeting on Tuesday, Jonathan and Ortom met behind closed-door for about 40 minutes. And Jonathan was convinced to remain in PDP,” a source close Ortom told SaharaReporters.
Another aide of the governor disclosed that Ortom, who was the Minister of State, trade and investment under the administration of Jonathan, also met with the ex-president to lobby him to attend the forthcoming PDP national convention.
“The party wants to lobby Jonathan to attend the National Convention and work for the PDP ahead and during the 2023 general elections.
"From oga’s (Ortom) body language and excitement, it's clear that the former president will attend the PDP presidential nomination,” he said.
