[GIST] Sports Minister, Dare Lies About Being Committed To Buhari Government After Picking, Submitting N50 Million APC Governorship Forms

The Minister of Youths and Sports, Sunday Dare, has dropped his intention to run for the Oyo State governorship election in 2023, despite purchasing and submitting the N50 million nomination and expression of interest forms of the ruling party, All Progressives Congress.

Dare in a statement on Monday said he decided to abandon his political ambition and remain in the President Muhammadu Buhari’s cabinet “to have a long-lasting legacy” but top sources told SaharaReporters that the minister’s decision was a directive from Buhari.

The minister said he had thus rejected calls to contest for the Oyo State governorship or senatorial seat, saying “I want to serve out my term.”

SaharaReporters had last week reported that Dare purchased the N50million APC nomination forms to succeed Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde of the Peoples Democratic Party in the 2023 governorship poll.

But on Monday, Dare said, “The assignment given to me on behalf of the Nigerian people by President Muhammadu Buhari is a national and an important one for the development of our youth and sports. I have in the last three years committed to bringing about far-reaching changes in these areas.

“Noble initiatives and policies are about to be delivered in these sectors. It is my desire to stand down and assist Mr. President complete and to leave a lasting legacy in the areas of Youth and Sports Development for Nigeria.

“The APC equally has a Presidential election battle ahead to which I will make available my skills and experience like I did in 2014 and 2015 to help our party win the Presidency.”

But a top source revealed to SaharaReporters that the minister was only acting out Buhari’s directive.

“The Minister of Sports already collected the APC forms and even submitted them but then, he is lying in the press release. He met with Buhari on Monday and it was after that meeting that he came out with the statement,” the source said.

Dare hence joins the league of ministers who backtracked on their 2023 political ambitions and chose to remain in the Buhari’s cabinet.

Chris Ngige, the Minister of Labour and Employment; Pauline Tallen, the Minister of Women Affairs; Timipre Sylva, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources and Abubakar Malami, the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, have since withdrawn their resignation letters and continued in office.

Professor arraigned for ‘offering $40,000 bribe’ to compromise ICPC probe

Professor arraigned for ‘offering $40,000 bribe’ to compromise ICPC probe

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has arraigned one John Kester Ifeanyichukwu, a professor, for alleged bribery.

According to a statement by Azuka Ogugwa, ICPC spokesperson, Ifeanyichukwu was arraigned before A.O. Otaluka, a judge of the federal capital territory (FCT) high court, on a one-count charge.

The anti-graft agency is accusing the professor of allegedly “issuing a cheque valued at $40,000 to a staff of the commission”.

“The cheque was part of the $50,000 and a house in Abuja, promised to the officer to compromise the investigation by retrieving the accused person’s devices, MacBook S/N CIML8BUGDTY3, MacBook S/N W80204J7ATN and iPhone pro11 which were in the custody of ICPC for investigative activities,” the statement reads.

“John Kester Ifeanyichukwu had earlier been reported to the commission by the presidency for alleged acts bordering on corruption, extortion and money laundering.

“ICPC, in a Charge No: CR/025/2022, informed the court of how the defendant induced one of its operatives to smuggle out a particular iPhone and a laptop and to replace them with a dummy that was to be provided by his personal assistant.”

The commission said the action of the accused contravenes section 18 (b) and is punishable under section 18 (d) of the ICPC Act, 2000.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge and sought bail.

Ruling on the application, the judge admitted Ifeanyichukwu to bail in the sum of N10 million and two sureties in like sum.

The sureties must be residents within the jurisdiction of the court and one of them must have a landed property in Abuja.

The judge ordered that the international passport of the accused and other valid travel documents must be submitted to the court before the next adjourned date.

The matter was adjourned to June 21, 2022, for further hearing.

[GIST] I’m Ready To Be Sweeping Aso Rock Villa If Ahmad Lawan Becomes President – Orji Kalu

Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has said he’s ready to be a sweeper at the presidential villa if Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, becomes the president of Nigeria.

Kalu said this while re-echoing his support for the Senate President on Monday during an interview on Channels Television.

“With Ahmad Lawan, I am ready to be the sweeper of the place (Aso Rock). I don’t need to have a position if Ahmad Lawan is the president,” the former Abia State governor noted.

“I can sweep the Villa; my house is very close to the Villa. I can be the sweeper of the Villa; it is just a stone’s throw. I am not joking.”

According to the Senate chief whip, Lawan’s presidential ambition is gathering steam as others candidates are ready to step down for the Senate President.

“I want to tell you, I have spoken to nine candidates running for president, and they are ready, already discussing to step down for Ahmed Lawan,” the lawmaker added.

Kalu, who said he knew Lawan 41 years ago, noted that he believed Lawan was strong enough to give Nigeria the strong leadership needed.

“I have known him 41 years ago,” the Senator said. “We were roommates at the university. He is strong enough to give the Nigerian people what they are looking for.”

[GIST] How Governor Fayemi Asked Me To Commit Electoral Fraud As Ruling APC National Chairman – Adams Oshiomhole

[GIST] How Governor Fayemi Asked Me To Commit Electoral Fraud As Ruling APC National Chairman – Adams Oshiomhole

All Content

A former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole, has disclosed that the Governor of Ekiti State and APC presidential aspirant, Kayode Fayemi, once wanted him to commit electoral fraud in the APC which he (Oshiomhole) declined.

The former Edo State Governor stated this in an interview on Channels Television, adding that Governor Fayemi made the request when he (Oshiomhole) served as the sitting chairman of the ruling party.

He said, “I said it in one of the meetings I had with Governor Kayode Fayemi who told me bluntly to my face that, “Chairman, what we are saying is, you can go and conduct election to fulfil all righteousness, but when we say; this is the person that should emerge, just make sure he is the person that emerges.”

“And I told Governor Fayemi that, ‘That would be your own portion; not me’. I cannot be used as an instrument of fraud, to invite people to buy forms when I have already decided, regardless of how people will vote; this is the man that will prevail.

“You want to use me for such a purpose, I said no, I said at worst, if you find the number to get rid of me, I will rather leave the job with my honour than sacrifice my honour to keep the job,” Oshiomhole said.

In November 2019, Oshiomhole was suspended from the APC after 18 Local Government Chairmen of the party in his native state of Edo passed a vote of no confidence on him. He was accused of trying to disintegrate the party in Edo State.

But a faction of the party loyal to Oshiomhole declared his suspension null and void and then suspended Governor Godwin Obaseki of the state whom they said orchestrated Oshiomhole's suspension.

On March 4, 2020, a High Court sitting in Abuja ordered the suspension of Oshiomhole from office of the National Chairman of the APC, stating that having been suspended from the party, Oshiomhole was no longer a member of the party and could not possibly continue to discharge his official responsibilities as national chairman.
