[GIST] Governors Wike, Uzodinma Behind Illegal Detention Of South-Easterners By Nigerian Military For 10 Months – IPOB

Pro-Biafra separatist group, the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has accused Nyesom Wike and Hope Uzodinma, governors of Rivers and Imo states respectively of allegedly killing Igbo youths in their states to negotiate political relevance.

 IPOB stated this in its reaction to the recent discovery by Intersociety that no fewer than 95 persons abducted by Nigerian soldiers are locked in Kaduna prisons.

 SaharaReporters published yesterday that the International Society for Civil Liberties and Rule of Law uncovered how military personnel abducted youths during #EndSARS protests last year October and let them rot in cells without access to their families and lawyers.

 In its reaction, IPOB said the two governors were complicit in the inhuman treatments meted out to the detained youths.

 The group’s spokesperson, Emma Powerful, said this in a statement made available to SaharaReporters on Saturday.

IPOB’s statement partly read, “We gathered that some of those abducted from Obigbo in Rivers State last year as well as some of the Biafrans being abducted in Imo State are also in various secret detention in Kaduna Prisons and other secret security cells in Kaduna and Abuja.

“It has come to the knowledge of IPOB that about 95 innocent citizens of Obigbo were discovered in Kaduna, 257 others kidnapped from Orlu Imo State sponsored by the Supreme Court Administrator of Imo State, Hope Uzodinma, were discovered in different secret army cells in Abuja. Some Orlu residents abducted by soldiers were discovered In Kaduna prisons, while 257 others are still missing.

“Members of the public are also invited to go and check their missing ones in the various army detention centres in Abuja.

“IPOB intelligence unit will not relent in the efforts towards unravelling the various secret cells and detention facilities where our people are hidden and locked up to rot away, where they lock up our people in Northern Nigeria. Hope Uzodinma of Imo State and Nyesom Wike of Rivers State were doing the bidding of their slave master because of political position.

“IPOB is urging world leaders, Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch and other reputable human rights organisations in the world to take note of these atrocities and genocidal attacks and humiliations on people of Biafra. The Nigerian government, Wike and Uzodinma must be made to account for their atrocities against the people of Biafra.

“Some of the detainees were found in Obinze-Owerri. Bori Camp Port Harcourt Rivers State, 82 Division Enugu including army barracks at Afikpo in Abia State. These people were detained for more than 10 months with severe torture and starvation and later transferred to Kaduna, Abuja and other security facilities scattered in the North.

“Our people abducted by Nigeria soldiers and other security agencies are now detained at Kaduna prisons, Abacha barracks, Mogadishu Barracks Abuja and the dreaded Abattoir barracks Abuja languishing for committing no crime against the law of Nigeria. Their only crime is because they are Biafrans. 

“Below are some of the detainees scattered across the various detention facilities under inhuman conditions; Humphrey Onyii, Kenechukwu Paul, Kacil Ude, Antonio Obi, Oluchi Nwaba, Ben Akachukwu, Mebechukwu Ifeanyi, Ebube Uche, David Akudo, Namdi Ndidi, Francis Collins, Ozioma Anurika (female), Odinaka Prince, Kingsley Obinna, Ekechukwu Joshua, Ekechukwu Paul, Pius Victoria (female), Emmanuel Obinna, Kanyinene Andrew, Kosisochukwu Best, Kachi Ude, Uchechukwu Uba, Londonboy Kelvin, Chinedu Anwuru, Sunday Adaoche, Chika Obasi, Isaac Ejekwe, Benjamin Orakwe,

“Others are Maxwell Uba, Kenneth Erochukwu, Mba Osigwe, Harrison Ezenwa, Boniface Nsowolu, Lawrence Celestine, Ugonna Kennedy, Nwadike Akolam, Jerry Chukwuemeka, Arinze Somtoochukwu, Anyanwu Ositadinma, Livinus Shedrack, Monday Uba, Ogugua Chukwuebuka, Prince Eze Ugochi, Ndubuisi Anayo, Bright Okafor, Emma Okafor, Henry Sopuruchukwu, Chika Ugwueze, Osinachi Jerry, Abraham Emeka, Moses Uzoma, Aaron Osagie, Onyekachi Chukwu and Chukwu Prince.

The abductors of 66 worshippers at the Emmanuel Baptist Church, Kakau Daji, in the Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, have asked for N99million as ransom to release the 61 persons still in captivity.

The abductors had shot five of their victims, killing three and injuring two others.

According to Daily Post, the Kaduna State Chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Rev. John Hayab, on Friday confirmed to newsmen that the kidnappers of the 66 worshippers of the Emmanuel Baptist Church, Kakau Daji in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, were demanding N99m ransom.

He also confirmed that two of the abductees of the church were killed on the spot; one other was later shot dead while two were injured and hospitalised.

Rev. Hayab said aside from the 66 persons kidnapped from the Baptist Church, Kakau Daji; on November 6, the bandits picked five young men between the ages of 15 to 24; initially contemplating to release them, but now, they had withheld them also in captivity.

He said, “They opened fire on all of them. Two died on the spot and one later died. We have buried three and two others who sustained injuries are still being treated but 61 are with them in the bush and nothing is happening.”

The state CAN Chairman also confirmed the release of one of the remaining four Bethel Baptist High school students, Kaduna, after spending over 150 days in captivity.

The students were kidnapped on 5th July 2021 in the school premises numbering 121 along the Kaduna-Kachia highway and were released in batches.

There was tension on Sunday, November 21, 2021, at Tungan-Maje community in Gwagwalada Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, as soldiers invaded three houses while shooting sporadically.

It was learnt that the soldiers attacked the houses at about 7:15pm and allegedly beat up one of the kingmakers of the community identified as the Galadima of Tungan-Maje, Salihu Aliyu, and his son, Abdulrahman Salihu.

The soldiers, who were said to be about thirteen 13 in number dressed in army uniforms.

They also wielded guns and sticks and they stormed the community in a Hilux vehicle.

It was also gathered that the soldiers allegedly beat up a 24-year-old student of the College of Education, Zuba, Shemau Salihu, who sustained a fracture on her hand, and five others in the community.

It was further found that some commercial motorcyclists passing through the area, who decided to stop at the scene of the incident, were also beaten by the soldiers.

A resident of the community, Abdullahi Ibrahim, recounted that he managed to escape through his back door when the rampaging soldiers stormed his house.

He added that the soldiers beat up anyone within sight with sticks and dragged their victims on the floor into their Hilux van.

Abdullahi also said he was seated with his friend, Abdulrahman Salihu, in front of his house when the soldiers alighted from their Hilux van.

He said, “A man and woman came and pointed at Abdulrahman and before you knew it they started beating him with sticks while some started shooting into the air and also entered into some houses.” 

Abdulrahman while speaking with our reporter said he had no problem with any of the soldiers but said he was surprised that a woman came with a man in mufti and pointed at him.

He added, “The woman just pointed at me saying ‘he is the brother’. I then asked her what the problem was. How can you just come from nowhere with someone and start pointing at me.” 

He said a few minutes later while people were coming out of the mosque after observing Ishai prayers, some soldiers alighted from the Hilux van and descended on him.

“They also pounced on my father, who also just finished observing Ishai prayers, and was coming out of the mosque. They dragged both of us on the ground into their van and drove us to their barrack,” he alleged.

Aliyu corroborated his son's claim.

“In fact, I even asked my son if he had any misunderstanding with them and he told me no. Yet, they hit me with a big stick and inflicted a deep cut on my head and later dragged me into their vehicle to their barrack,” he said.

Another victim, Adamu Abubakar, said the soldiers also descended on him immediately after observing Ishai prayers and dragged him into their Hilux van to the barrack.

“Some of the soldiers used their legs and smashed my door, while one of them pushed my wife to the ground who was carrying a baby on her back,” he said.

The invasion of the soldiers may not be unconnected to land compensation disagreement between a younger sibling of Abdulrahman Salihu, whose name was yet to be identified and a woman identified as Mrs Gambo Adama, which lingered for two years, a report by Daily Trust revealed.

Chief of Tungan-Maje, Alhaji Salihu Isiaku Na’Annabi, confirmed the incident, saying he was in his palace when some of his subjects came to report to him that some soldiers had beaten up Galadima of Tungan-Maje and some others.

“I put a call across to the Agora of Zuba, even though I couldn’t get him on the phone but I told the Makama Karmi to alert him about the incident in my domain,” he said.

The monarch said one of his sons later contacted the commander of the barrack at Tungan-Maje to report the incident and the commander promised to investigate the matter.

Vice Chairman of Gwagwalada Area Council, Alhaji Mohammed Kasim Ikwa, said he visited the community immediately after receiving the information about the incident.

While condemning the incident, he said he had placed a call to the FCT Police Commissioner, Sunday Babaji, to inform him about the incident.

“I learnt that when some people have a disagreement with someone, the next thing such a person will do is to go and invite a soldier at their base to come and molest people,” he alleged.

President of Koro Youth Association in the FCT, Comrade Adamu Isyaku, who is a native of Tungan-Maje, alleged that people of the community have been facing frequent threats and harassment from soldiers in the area.

He alleged that despite the natives’ ancestral land being forcefully taken over from them by the Nigeria Army, the army has never rendered any help to them, rather they go about intimidating and assaulting their people.

He further alleged that the community has been under siege of kidnapping and armed robbery, but the army whose barrack is in the community has never come to their rescue.

“I see no reason why the army should be interfering in civil matters that involve civilians. Anytime there is a disagreement between two civilians in the community, one person will just go and invite a soldier to come and assault the other person,” he alleged.

Comrade Isyaku said the association has already written a petition to the Public Complaint Commission (PCC), FCT Police Commissioner, DSS, army, police area commander about an alleged incessant assault on natives of the community by soldiers in the area.

An army officer, who asked not to be named, revealed that the garrison commander has received a petition from the natives of the community through the Commissioner of Public Complaints Commission (PCC), Mr Ezekiel Dalhatu Musa.

“Really, the FCT Commissioner of PCC brought a petition to our Garrison Commander on Wednesday, regarding the incident at Tungan-Maje, and he assured him that he was going to investigate the matter,” he said.

No fewer than 18 suspected criminals from Katsina State arrested in Ondo State with over 500 daggers and other weapons have been arraigned and remanded at the Olokuta Correctional Centre in Akure, the state capital.

The South-West security outfit, Amotekun, had found over 500 knives and daggers concealed in a sack filled with tiger nuts inside the vehicle in which the suspects were travelling and promptly arrested all the occupants of the vehicle.

According to Tribune, the trial of the suspects was confirmed on Saturday by the commander of Amotekun in the state, Adetunji Adeleye, noting that the Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ondo ordered the remand of the suspects for allegedly being in possession of concealed dangerous weapons with an intent, allegedly, to conspire to perpetrate illegal act.

He said the arrested suspects would soon appear in the court again.

Other suspects travelling in two other vehicles were said to have escaped arrest.

SaharaReporters had reported that the suspects claimed to have taken off from Kastina State in three 18-seater passenger buses before arriving in Ondo State and refusing to stop at checkpoints within the state.

The Amotekun boss had, after the arrest of the 18 suspects, said: “We got intelligence that a group of men were coming to invade the state, so we set out our monitoring devices. And at precisely 1.30am on Thursday (November 4, 2021), we saw three hummer buses that we had actually been trailing till they entered the state. 

“They had a brief stop just before they entered the town and our men tried to stop them but the three buses escaped; so we had to radio all our control points and we were able to bring the three buses to a stop at a point on Ondo Road by a combined team of the police and civil defence.

“The buses attempted to overrun the security agents and sped off. The speed was so much that they hit all the barricades on the road. We found out that it was difficult pursuing them in order not to cause accident, so we radioed our station on Owena and the security men there blocked the road to all vehicles.

“But they were able to escape by hitting the barricades again. We continued pursuing them while we called the Ile-Oluji Junction that they should block the road solidly but the drivers, again, escaped.

“But we later organised a complete blockage before the Akure Garage in Ondo town and we were able to apprehend them.

“They claimed to be coming to Akure and the driver said somebody commissioned them from Katsina State but that he didn’t know the content of the bag filled with tiger nuts.

“On opening the bags, we found some guns, rounds of ammunition and also found under the seat about 500 different types and sizes of daggers and poisonous jack knives cleverly concealed under the seats.

“When we asked them what they intended to do, they told us that they were just given instructions to go and that further instructions would be given to them,” he had said.

Usman Baba, the Inspector-General of Police, has waded into the case of Timothy Adegoke, the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) MBA student who was found dead at the Hilton Hotel and Resorts, Ile-Ife, Osun State.

A police source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to FIJ, said a team from Abuja arrived at the Osun Police Command on November 25 to work out modalities on how to transfer the investigation to Abuja.

“I can confirm to you that the Force Headquarters, under the instruction of the IGP, has ordered the transfer of the case to Abuja. Rahmon Adegoke, the owner of the hotel, has also been transported to the Force Headquarters where investigations would continue,” he said.

It was gathered that the case is now being handled by the IGP’s Intelligence Response Team (IRT) at the Force Headquarters.

Timothy was an MBA student at the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU). He had travelled to Osun in November with the hope of sitting for scheduled exams at OAU’s Distance Learning Centre. He was initially declared missing on November 7 before his corpse was found eight days later.

SaharaReporters had on Friday reported that the Osun State Police Command stated that the son of the owner of Hilton Hotel and Resorts, Ile-Ife, Raheem Adedoyin, had not been declared wanted for complicity in the murder of the late Timothy Adegoke because the autopsy result into the cause of the death of the student was not yet out.

SaharaReporters earlier reported that the family of the Master of Business Administration (MBA) student of Obafemi Awolowo University, who died mysteriously after lodging at Hilton Hotels and Resorts in Ile Ife had rebuked the police for failing to arrest Raheem who was recently said to have dumped Timothy's corpse in the bush.

In a statement by the family’s lawyer, Kayode Ajulo which was obtained by SaharaReporters on Thursday, Timothy’s family had reiterated that all those scheming to distort justice for the dead would not be spared to face the wrath of the law.

“Considering the circumstances of the disingenuously orchestrated murder of Mr. Timothy Adegoke Oludare, the Law Enforcement Agency whose primary duty is to protect lives of citizens ought to exert the same energy invested in trailing and arresting suspected secessionists in arresting Mr. Raheem Adedoyin, who is allegedly at large.

“While one wonders whether the labelling of Raheem Adedoyin as a prime suspect is a game plan to unclamp Dr. Rahman Adedoyin, a panoptic appraisal of the whole saga will reveal nothing more than an attempt by some dark sections to allow glittering externalities to subvert the core of genuine probing and discreet investigations in the guise to pervert the cause of justice which we shall definitely refute.

“Now that the Police know so much, it is time to start asking more questions: Why has Raheem Adedoyin not been declared wanted and an intelligence team churned out to arrest him?

“Why would the hoteliers break into the late Timothy Adegoke’s room on the first night when he actually paid for two nights at the hotel?

“Why have the suspects not been charged before a Court of Competent record as prescribed by the Constitution?

“Without doubt, it must be clear to those who still have eyes to see and a conscience which is alive, that the credibility of the Nigerian Police Force at such a crucial time like this depends in large measure on their handling of this present case where some persons have declared themselves as the untouchables,” Ajulo had said.
